![]() ![]() Make sure you can get replacement parts and fluids effectively cheap. Just my two cents if you are looking to buy imported vehicle. So you have to order this stuff (and other fluids) online. Nearest dealership is 200 miles or greater from me. so i bought some G12 coolant today from the VW dealership to put into the D2 while i get around to replacing the water pump. Early Volkswagen’s and Audi’s from the model years 1980 1997 use G11 Coolant, 1998 2008 use G12+, and 2008-present use G12++ Coolant & G13 Coolant. If you can’t find it in the manual, it also should be marked on the coolant tank itself. G12 found cheapest at about 30 dollars a gallon (vs 10-15 dollars a gallon for house brand or name brand antifreeze at your local parts place) plus another down factor is the fact that where I live (SW Kansas) there are no VW or Audi dealerships. Again, a good rule of thumb, look in the owner’s manual. G12 while not compatible with any other antifreeze works well with the vehicle as intended by the manufacturer. While the fluids, and vehicle are top notch, buying the fluids for the vehicles can be very expensive versus convential fluids and domestic vehicles.
